Osteoporotic fracture (Osteoporosis)
Osteoporosis is a disease that causes the decrease of bone mineral density and reduced bone mass, causing thinning of the bones. For many people, osteoporosis is asymptomatic, but over time the wear of the bones can result in vertebral fractures, which cause severe back pain, decreased height and hunchback position. The incidence of osteoporotic fractures is much higher in the elderly, especially in women who have gone through menopause. Besides genetic factors, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, physical inactivity and poor dietary calcium may increase the risk of osteoporosis.

Treatment
The best treatment is prevention. The consumption of foods rich in calcium and regular physical exercises are good ways to prevent disease. Currently there are minimally evasive techniques for treating these fractures, with rapid recovery of the patient. In most cases there is no need for surgery, but if the patient has neurological deficits, instability, progression of deformity or severe pain, the intervention is recommended.
