The New Code of Medical Ethics

On April 13th, Tuesday, came into force the new Code of Medical Ethics, a change that should alter the whole relationship between doctor and patient.

Two years of discussion so that 400 delegates from class councils define 118 standards that will estabilish how it should be the role of doctors in clinics, hospitals, clinics and other health services.

The new rules limit even the performance of “pop stars” doctors who can no longer advertise, display advertising patients nor their offices.

The code was not reviewed for 22 years. Since then, not only medicine changed, but patients are also different. Through the Internet, the number of people coming to office without the slightest knowledge about their condition is declining and many question the doctors about treatments and clinical procedures.

The new code makes patients as responsible for the choice of clinical treatment as doctors. Therefore, it was determined that the professional must provide all the possible existing clinics - since proven scientifically - and leave the choice to the patient.

This can affect from the long line therapy adapted to a simple cold, to the decisions taken at controversial orthotanasia * - also regulated by the new code of ethics. The orthotanasia is a medical term used to define the natural death of the patient without interference for treatment when there is no more chance of cure. The procedure is now regulated for all hospitals.
Check out some of the major changes in the Code of Medical Ethics:

* Orthotanasia means proper death, or death by natural process. In this case the patient is already in the natural process of death and receives assistance from a physician for this state follow its natural course. It is different from euthanasia or caused death, that instead of letting death happen, euthanasia act on death, anticipating it.
